Bullets, Ballots and Bombs: Making War and Peace in Ireland, 1798 to 1998
The objective of the course is to understand the tragedy of two centuries of conflict in Ireland from the United Irishmen to the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement. The class will look at the Union with Britain, politicians and plotters who opposed it, the Easter Rising of 1916, the creation of a partitioned Ireland, the “Troubles” and the peace process which established a new basis of hope.
