The University of Scranton's Prison Education Program

Wednesday, 20 April, 2022

Join us on Wednesday, April 20th, at 5pm in the Moskovitz Theatre to learn about the University of Scranton's Prison Education Program, where inmates can earn a UofS Associate's degree at Dallas prison. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to come learn about our national context of mass incarceration and the positive and challenging work of extending our University's mission to the incarcerated. A special guest joining the panel will be Darryl Byers-Robinson, an alum of the Bard Prison Initiative, who was featured in the documentary College Behind Bars, the captain of the prison debate team that beat Harvard University. Also joining will be Dr. Christie Karpiak, one of the three Scranton professors currently teaching at Dallas prison, Dr. Chris Haw, the Program Director, Dr. Jeff Gingerich, Provost; and moderating the panel will be CAS Dean Dr. Michelle Maldonado.

This will be a time to be inspired by the University's work behind bars and to learn about the economic, political, and racial context of mass incarceration in the United States.
