5:30 p.m.

The Heritage Room, 5th Floor Weinberg Memorial Library

The Humanities Forum and University Reading Series welcomes former University of Scranton Department of English & Theatre visiting professor, Dr. Iheoma Nwachukwu. He will read from his 2023 Flannery O' Connor Award-Winning short story collection Japa & Other Stories. According to the University of Georgia Press, "the JAPA characters explored in this book are immigrants who have no plans to return to their home country - for voluntary reasons - though they retain a stron connection to home." Through these stories of migration, we encounter cultural differences and common human experiences of hope adn adversity. A question & answer session follows the reading.

Dr. Nwachukwu is a fiction writer and poet. He has won fellowships from the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Michener Center for Writers, and the Chinua Achebe Center. His work has been published in Ploughshares, The Southern Review, The Iowa Review, AGNI, Electric Literature, Oxford American, and other venues. Nwachukwu is Assistant Professor at Eastern University and lives in Pennsylvania.
