Newly launched by our Northeast Student Data Corps, the Data Science Career Panel webinar series features experts from academia, government, industry, and nonprofits who share their experiences learning and using data science. These virtual events aim to highlight the wide range of educational opportunities and career paths available in data science and data analytics.

Panelists:

Sanjana Reddy Pasnuri

Sanjana Reddy Pasnuri is working as a Data scientist for the Expert Labs Learning Team, IBM, North Carolina, US. Her main focus is on developing curriculum and content related to the field of Trustworthy AI. Sanjana pursued her Masters in Information Systems Management from Carnegie Mellon University with a concentration in the field of data science. Before joining IBM, Sanjana worked as a full-time data scientist for PWC in the forensic technology domain and during her masters, she interned as a data scientist with Adobe, EY, and the South Australian Government. She is active on Linkedin and passionate about providing guidance to entry-level students in the field of data science and making them aware of the interesting, exciting, and challenging problems that can be solved through it.

Jason Williams

Jason Williams is Assistant Director, External Collaborations at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center in Long Island, NY, where he develops national biology education programs. Jason leads education, outreach, and training for CyVerse (US national cyberinfrastructure for the life sciences) and has trained thousands of students, researchers, and educators in bioinformatics, data science, and molecular biology. Jason’s focus has been developing bioinformatics in undergraduate education and career-spanning learning for biologists. Jason is the founder of LifeSciTrainers.org – a global effort to promote the community of practice among professionals who develop short-format training for life scientists. Jason is also a member of and has chaired science advisory boards in the US, UK, and Australia, He is also a teacher at the Yeshiva University High School for Girls.

Dr. Patricia Ordóñez

Dr. Patricia Ordóñez an Associate Professor in the Computer Science faculty at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras. Her research interests are in applying machine learning, data mining, and visualization to multivariate time series analysis, specifically as it applies to Biomedical Data Science. Through collaboration among computational scientists, medical professionals, and others, Dr. Ordóñez has helped develop clinical decision support systems so that medical providers make better diagnosis and treatment plans by learning from the experience of previous providers who have had similar patients. Dr. Ordóñez founded the Symposium of Health Informatics for Latin America and the Caribbean as a major step in addressing this objective through international collaboration. She is passionate about making quality health and education accessible to all and diversifying the field of computer science by developing mentoring communities at the elementary, middle, high school, college, and graduate school levels. She leads in creating assistive technologies for programming and communication so that computer science is for all.

Martin Pavlovski

Martin Pavlovski is a Ph.D. candidate and a Research Assistant at the Center for Data Analytics and Biomedical Informatics at Temple University in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. His research is directed towards machine learning from sequentially and graphically structured data, with applications in power systems and healthcare. During his Ph.D. studies, Martin has completed two internships at Yahoo Research. Martin received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies from the Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje, Macedonia.
