Guest Speaker - Violence against Latina Immigrants - Persistent Inequalities & Change
Thursday, 14 April, 2016
Speaker: Roberta Villalón, Ph.D.
Description: Caught between violent partners, the bureaucratic complications and the unequal structure of the US Immigration system, many immigrant women are particularly vulnerable to abuse. For two years, Roberta Villalón volunteered at a nonprofit group that offered free legal services to immigrant victims of violence. Her activist research of Latina survivors of partner abuse explores the complexities at the intersection of immigration, citizenship, and violence, and shows how inequality is perpetuated and can be challenged to further justice.
