Wildlands Conservancy South Mountain Preserve Hike-In Trail Work Project
Saturday, October 22, 2016
09:00 AM - 01:00 PM

Join fellow Lehigh Valley alumni for a service project for the Wildlands Conservancy and experience a little wilderness paradise just a short distance from Allentown's urban core.

Volunteers will advance the Conservancy mission to care for a preserve that boasts more than 350 acres of woodland trails, pronounced rocky outcroppings and unique vistas in an otherwise urban landscape, an area that is part of the larger 750-acre Robert Rodale Reserve, one of the most important natural areas in the Valley. Volunteers will hike on existing trails into the work area and will be clearing vegetation and performing some minor earth work where the Conservancy is working to expand the existing trail network to portions of the Preserve that have not had public access.

  • Volunteers can but do not need to bring their own tools; the Conservancy will supply tools unless a volunteer has a favorite pair of pruners, hand, loppers or gloves.
  • Long pants are recommended; sturdy shoes, no flip flops.
  • Wear / bring tick and insect repellent.
  • Wear sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • Please bring water and a lunch, along with any snacks.
  • Children over age 12 are welcome.
