Schemel Forum Evening course: A Reconsideration of the Politics of the Founding Generation in the Age of Donald Trump
As we live through a contentious period in American politics, it is easy to romanticize the past as a more civilized age. A close examination of the earliest years of American politics reveals that the founding of the United States was every bit as contentious as the early 21st Century. This course will examine the conflicts that shaped the political scene in the Early American Republic, including the Alien and Sedition Acts and the Sally Hemings scandal, and explore what lessons that past holds for us today.
