Other Dates For This Event:
Friday, 06 December, 2013
The University of Scranton Players’ final production of the Fall 2013 semester will be Becky Shaw by Gina Gionfriddo, directed by Guest Artist J. Nicole Brooks. The play will be presented in the Studio Theater at the Joseph M. McDade Center for Literary and Performing Arts beginning Thursday, December 5th and running through Sunday, December 8th. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00pm, Sunday matinee will begin at 2:00 PM. The Studio Theatre seating is non-reserved, open seating and limited to 100 patrons, so ticket reservations are strongly encouraged. This production features Cillian Byrne (as Andrew), Mike Kranick (as Max), Xiomara Rolon (as Susan), Megan Lasky (as Suzanna), and Julia Ekwall (as Becky).
Becky Shaw follows a complex, funny and sometimes dysfunctional quartet of friends, lovers and acquaintances navigating through a contemporary comedy of bad manners. Despite Suzanna’s complicated relationship with Max, filled with awkward family ties and an affair, she sets him up with her husband Andrew’s troubled friend and co-worker, Becky. The blind date gone horribly wrong, proving to be emotionally stunting for all characters, and keeps audiences on the edge of their seats throughout. Becky Shaw will leave you questioning your loved ones, while, at the same time, clutching their hands for comfort.
Written in 2008, Becky Shaw premiered at the Humana Festival of New American Plays, in Louisville Kentucky, and was commissioned by the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Gionfriddo has received critical acclaim for her writing, including and Obie Award, the Helen Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights, and a Guggenheim Fellowship, and continues to amaze audiences for such works.
Tickets for Becky Shaw are available by reservation, or may be purchased at the box office in the lobby of the McDade Center for Literary & Performing Arts, on any night of the performance. General admission tickets are $10. Tickets for students, seniors, and University of Scranton faculty and staff members are $7 each.
