Candle Light Vigil and Poetry Slam

Thursday, 27 February, 2014

The Jane Kopas Women’s Center and United Colors Organization of The University of Scranton invite all Scranton area students to participate in our collaborative program, “Candle Light, Poetry Night” on Thursday, February 27 at 7p.m. in The DeNaples Center 405 at The University of Scranton. We’re very excited for the first program like this on our campus and in our community.

The Candlelight portion includes remembering the fallen angels that fought for civil rights and against oppression; through expressive poetry and inspirational biographies from students.

The purpose of the evening’s program is to bring the community together, during Black History Month, to recognize local and national social justice advocates and celebrate with a poetry slam. Students and community members are invited to participate by attending the event, but more importantly participating by reading poetry. The poetry can either be well known, with credit given, or a work of their own lasting no more than six minutes. The selection will need to be submitted by Monday, February 24 to jkwc@scranton.edu for prior approval.
