Greater Scranton MLK Commission Awards and Celebration Dinner
Sunday, 18 January, 2015
The Greater Scranton MLK Commission will host their annual awards dinner on January 18, 2015 in the McIlhenny Ballroom, from 2:30pm-5:30pm.
The theme for 2015 is Infinite Hope, taken from the quote by Dr. King - "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." Featured speakers include: Rev. Tawan Bailey, Pastor of Bethel AME Church; Alejandra Marroquin, Outreach Coordinator, Catholic Social Services; Mr. Richard Conaboy, Jr.; Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Clearbook Lodge; Mr. Carl Graziano, Chief of Police, City of Scranton; and Keynote Speaker Mr. Damon Rozier, author, comedian and motivational speaker from Brooklyn, NY.
Despite growing up around drugs and violence and losing his ability to walk in the prime of his life, Comedian and Author Damon Rozier refused to give up on his dreams. “After I was spinal cord injured in a motorcycle accident in 1997 I quickly realized that society treated people with disabilities much differently. My biggest challenge was challenging myself. I knew that I would have to conquer many obstacles to regain my independence and that I ultimately had the power to either make my situation better or worse,” Damon says.
Please join us for an inspirational afternoon. Tickets are $25 each may be purchased by contacting Jennifer Pennington in the Office of Euity and Diversity, 570-941-6645.
